About

After moving to rural Vermont, Lee Sutton's family would soon discover how magical of a spot it truly was. That first summer changed everything! The 3 daughters came to call it Moth Mountain after the arrival of many ethereal creatures.

Their first spring they woke up one morning in May to find a one-eyed spinx on their porch window. Next came the rosy maples, followed by a Polyphemus. Waking up to the first two Luna moths was a surreal moment they would never forget. Soon, other visitors like hawk moths, tiger moths, and even a cercropia would make an appearance.

Inspired and eager to learn more, the girls began studying Peterson's Moths of North America. Practically becoming experts, they can now identify many moths without needing to reference the guide at all. Moth season is something they would indefinitely look forward to. When Lee fell pregnant with her fourth daughter due early June, the girls said their baby sister would be born when the moths arrive.

With the abundance of blooming flowers in their garden and the amount of moths that visit every night, Lee began photographing them.

Lee, the artist behind Rosy Maple Inn, is also known for photographing families and children, as well as her fiber art work (Mae’s Landing).

One magical summer night as the girls were surrounded by these incredible creatures they were imagining our house an Inn for moths to come and rest and relax after their long journeys and newly emerging from their cocoons. Thus came the name Rosy Maple Inn.
